our mission
As one of Smithers’ sustainable community food initiatives, our mission is as sweet and simple as our menu: to allow you to experience the sweet taste of sustainability, right here at 54.7824° N, 127.1686° W.
Purchasing our Chamber Members locally grown or handcrafted goods is one of the easiest ways to practice sustainability in your life - by making the conscious choice to shop local, you support families, friends, and loved ones across the Bulkley Valley & beyond.
We make this practice even easier for you by compiling a menu of delicious, locally and regionally produced products, so that you can try them here first. By doing so, we want to be part of creating a cultural shift towards supporting local as much as possible.
We have made sure that our menu features items that are created right here in the Bulkley Valley (like craft kombucha from Bulkley River Booch or delicious brownies, cookies & muffins from Riverside Kitchen Co.), items that feature local ingredients (example: Bulkley Valley Hive and Honey products in our signature honey toffee), or items that are purchased from local kitchens and businesses (like aprons from Stone Moth). By ensuring that supporting local is at the forefront of our Chamber business model, every one of our products will allow you to experience what we call the “sweet taste of sustainability”.
INSPIRE, UPLIFT, AND INVEST IN YOUTH
Frozen North Smithers is proud to be a completely student-led endeavour. Through hands-on mentorship with Chamber staff and other business-minded leaders in the community, our young team members are able to develop advanced business management skills including: menu development and design, inventory management and product procurement, general & operational management, social media marketing, and professional relationship-building.
By supporting Frozen North Smithers, you too are investing in, uplifting, and inspiring a future filled with innovation and creativity.
OUR VALUES
LIFT UP LOCAL
We are committed to supporting local & regional wherever possible, to help inspire a cultural shift in consumption habits.
We value our local producers and services that make Smithers a vibrant, unique place to live, and we want to help you supporting local wherever possible.
To uphold this value, 75 per cent of our menu is locally & regionally produced by various producers in the Bulkley Valley. From gut-healthy kombucha to honey toffee prepared by Riverside Kitchen Co. (using Bulkley Valley Hive and Honey), to Bugwood Bean iced coffee, there’s something on the menu for everyone!
CIRCULAR ECONOMY
The circular economy model is an economic system based on the reuse, recycling, and regeneration of materials or products, especially as a means of continuing production in a sustainable way.
Frozen North Smithers contributes to a circular economy model by reducing labour and energy environmental costs by supporting local producers, as well as serving our products in recyclable or compostable materials.
SUPPORT CHAMBER MEMBERS
Frozen North Smithers is in the care of the Smithers District Chamber of Commerce, a registered not-for-profit board-of-trade whose sole mission is to support and advocate for businesses in the Bulkley Valley.
As a result, Frozen North Smithers is designed to be a unique way to feature our agricultural and food service Chamber members. If you’re interested in joining the Chamber of Commerce, please reach out to Executive Director Sheena Miller at manager@smitherschamber.com for more information.
